What is it with help-desks and canned answers?, sometimes I feel like punching right through the screen, reaching the monkey on the other side and smacking it ’til it can’t tap the keyboard no more!

Joking aside, what really annoys me is the fact that they treat me like an idiot, I could be talking about specific details of whatever, and they’ll answer with more or less “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” — It’s outrageous!

Companies should really add a field tn the registration form that reads “I’m a: *select* Dummy, Somehow of a geek, Professional nerd” — And route their tickets accordingly!

Oh well… I should probably ease off the monologues and rants for today.

Now, If only I could find that sysadmin’s email address… That would make me a happy guy, I’ll even forget about the monkeys!

As I previously mentioned, I decided to migrate into a Linux based host, for the obvious reasons (stability, flexibility, etc) Usually you get more for less in Linux, and that counts when it comes to Hosting… However, since I got this service, I’ve only been able to “use” it once or twice, reason being they first had a major carrier issue that lead all of their websites, including their own, to be offline for 8 hours, yes, eight hours!… After 24 hours, Some magic spell was cast on the server I’m hosting at, since both hard drives failed miserably (at least, that’s what they say “RAID failure”; I say they don’t even use RAID to save $$$)…

12 hours after this, they finally got the server up; But all the data was gone… I kindly insulted them for a while and then decided to upload a full backup I had just generated hours before the crash. Why, why did I upload the backup?, now my panel account was ruined and PHP wasn’t even working! – Great Service! – So I had to report this, another 3 hours are gone until they answer, fixing the account; so I get to upload once again the full backup, to find myself in the same situation – deja vu! – … Finally, I decided to send the whole thing to them, through the “help desk” and let them handle it… I went for a nap, because quite frankly I know little to no people that can do anything without email and web service…

As a result of my heavy subconscious thoughts while asleep, the account was restored to the state of my backup and I get to at least post this through the email / cronjob service of wordpress…
What a nice company, let me tell you, you will never find so many idiots working at the same place!. It’s not my intent to talk bad about anyone hence I’m not giving out names, but it’s worth noticing that sometimes local isn’t just good, most of the times, it isn’t good at all.
And that leads me to the conclusion, that there is nothing in Argentina that makes me proud of being Argentine, nothing at all… I cannot grab something and say “Hey, we make this, and I’m damn proud of it!”… NOTHING!.

It’s sad when such a great country is lowered to the deepest of darkness because of ruthless power abusing and corrupt behavior…

I’m hoping, some day this will change… But obviously, hoping is not enough. Today it’s the hosting; but yesterday it was the power grid, whereas last day, the phone company played monkey on me… When is this country going to start behaving as such?.

I say never…

Finally, migrated to a Linux host. Much needed, specially due to the flexibility gained over a *nix system.

Too bad, however, that most hosting companies are not prepared for migration tasks, ie. they make you migrate everything by yourself. That’s ok, on some cases, although, when they take 48 hours to process the administrative side and another 24hs for the technical side… It gets a little annoying, indeed.

But the bitter taste always comes from the support… In the sense that, even though you’re a paying customer (and not just a “user” as they state) they don’t seem to care much whether you stay with them or not, whether you require a migration or not, they simply do not care about those things, they always seem to follow some sort of pdf / paper where they have a few rules of engagement and that’s it, once they find themselves out of those boundaries they become raging monkeys ready to attack if only, they wouldn’t lose their job by doing so. So that’s when they start to throw the ball against each other, ultimately wasting your time and probably your customer’s time as well.

That can’t be good!

So that said, next time I’ll just pay an extra buck or two and get a better service where at least they respect their customers. Who, ultimately, feed them. And you know what they say; never bite the hand that feeds you.
